Tension & Trauma Release Exercises (TRE)

TRE ( TRE stands for Tension or Trauma Releasing Exercises), it was developed by Dr. David Berceli as a simple way of tapping into and unlocking our natural and instinctual mechanism of shaking off tension after stressful life events. Most of us carry various patterns of contractions (physical, psychological) that we are not even fully aware of and which are stored up in our body tissues and over activated nervous system (stuck in old protective reflexes: fight, run, shut down). This often undermines our energy level, deregulates our natural rhythms of sleep, hunger, sexual arousal, impacts our health and mindset etc so the benefits of regular shaking practice are quite broad.

TRE is a set of 7 simple exercises that enables the natural shaking mechanism, called neurogenic tremors. When evoked in a controlled and sustained way, this shaking begins to release deep chronic muscular tension held within the body (in stress responses) as well as waking and energizing the parts of us that are stuck or collapsed (in shut down reponses).  The tremor is first evoked at the centre of gravity of the body, which is protected by the psoas muscles. When shaking is evoked at this powerful centre, it reverberates throughout the entire body, traveling along the spine, releasing deep chronic tension from the sacrum to the cranium. When tension is released anywhere in the body, the brain registers a reduction in pain signals and produces new hormones for relaxation and comfort. Often, this release of tension feels much like receiving an internal massage.

What is the session like?

After the initial settling and checking in, I will guide you though a series of exercises designed to wake our tremoring mechanism. Once that's established we explore and support body's tremoring intelligence as well as deepen our grounding and self regulating skills. The session in completed with a brief sharing. The individual session takes 60mins and group 60-75mins
